Set on the Silk Road, Uzbekistan has played host to waves of conquerors and nomads. The legacy they have left behind can be seen in the towering fortresses of Khiva and Bukhara and the glorious Islamic architecture of Samarkand. This escorted group tour also includes visits to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, and Shahrisabz where Tamerlane built a large summer palace.

Day 1 To Tashkent:
Fly overnight from London to Tashkent with Uzbekistan Airways. (N)

Day 2 Tashkent:
Arrive in Tashkent and transfer to the Tashkent Palace Hotel (or similar) for 2 nights (including immediate occupancy). Morning at leisure. Afternoon tour of the city, including Revolution Square, the Museum of Decorative and Applied Art, the old city, the bazaar and the Kukeldash Mosque and Madrassa. (D)

Day 3 To Samarkand:

Morning drive to Samarkand. This afternoon, visit the magnificent Registan Square. Stay for 3 nights at the President Hotel or similar. (B, D)

Day 4 Samarkand:
Full day tour of Samarkand including visits to Shah-I-Zinda necropolis, the tomb of Tamerlane and the Bibi Khanum  Mosque. (B, D)

Day 5 Shahrisabz & Samarkand:

Morning visit to Shahrisabz, where Tamerlane built a large summer palace. Return to Samarkand and spend the afternoon at leisure. (B, L, D)

Day 6 To Gijduvan & Bukhara:

Drive to Bukhara via Gijduvan, the site of the finest ceramic production in the Bukhara region. Stay at the Asia Hotel or similar for 3 nights. (B, L, D)

Day 7 Bukhara:

Full day tour of Bukhara, including the Ark, the great Kalyan Minaret, the Samanid Mausoleum and the Bukhara crafts centre. (B, D)

Day 8 Bukhara:

Morning visit to the Summer Palace of the last Emir of Bukhara. Afternoon at leisure. (B, D)

Day 9 To Khiva:

Full day drive to Khiva (approximately 8 hours). Stay for 2 nights at the Malika Hotel Khiva or similar. (B, L, D)

Day 10 Khiva:

Full day tour of Khiva. (B, D)

Day 11 To Tashkent:

Morning drive to Urgench and fly to Tashkent. This afternoon, complete your sightseeing in Tashkent. Stay overnight at the Tashkent Palace Hotel (or similar). (B, D)

Day 12 To London: Morning at leisure. Afternoon transfer to the airport. Fly from Tashkent to London with Uzbekistan Airways.

President Hotel, Samarkand
The President Hotel has 161 air-conditioned rooms all equipped with en suite bathrooms. Hotel facilities include a swimming pool and on site health centre, including sauna, and 2 restaurants.

Malika Hotel, Khiva
The Malika Hotel is located opposite the West Gate entrance to the walled city of Khiva and makes a convenient base from which to explore the ancient mosques, madrassah and minarets of Ichan Kala . All rooms are ensuite with air-conditioning. There is a small restaurant serving local and international cuisine.

Asia Hotel, Bukhara
The Asia Hotel is located in the heart of the old city and constructed in the style of a traditional two storey madrassa. The hotel has 54 rooms all with air-conditioning and ensuite facilities. Much of the furniture is handmade by local craftsmen. There is a small restaurant and a bar serving traditional food.

Tashkent Palace Hotel, Tashkent
The Tashkent Palace Hotel (formerly Le Meridien Hotel) is located in the centre of Tashkent, close to Independence Square and opposite the Alisher Navoi Opera House. The rooms have modern facilities including air-conditioning and minibar, while the hotel restaurants serve a range of International and traditional Central Asian dishes. Leisure facilities include a Piano bar, outdoor swimming pool, sauna and fully equipped fitness club.
