Day 1 late afternoon
THE COURTAULD INSTITUTE
One of London’s best art collections, the Courtauld
Institute is housed in the impressive surroundings of
18th century Somersert House with its wonderful
central courtyard surrounded by neo-classical
buildings that housed all manner of government
departments. The Courtauld Gallery has one of the
most important collections in Britain, including worldfamous
Old Master and Impressionist and Post-
Impressionist paintings, together with sculpture and
applied arts, and a world-class prints and drawings
collection which includes works by Michelangelo,
Rembrandt, Cézanne and Turner.
Day 2 evening walk
OLD HOLLAND PARK VILLAGE
Holland Park is elegant London, a quiet interlude
away from the noise and traffic of the bustling
metropolis. This fascinating tour delves into the history
of the extraordinary Holland family and how their
fortunes affected the area. We’ll see what’s left of the
old mansion and one of the most beautiful and
assured and dignified residential neighbourhoods in
the world, let alone London. Hear tales of the
Victorian artists who lived and worked here, including
Lord Leighton.
Day 3 morning walk
HAMPSTEAD & KENWOOD
Our setting is London’s most picturesque
neighbourhood... a perfectly preserved Georgian
village crowning the top of a handsome hill and
garnished with the capital’s most elegant old world
promenade, a medley of cobble-stone lanes, pretty
cottages, surprising turnings, and unsurpassed views.
As for our cast of characters... well it’s every bit as
beguiling as our setting, ranging from the
highwayman Dick Turpin to the painter Constable to
the poet Keats. And for good measure, there’s
London’s most villagey atmosphere, white swans on
a lake, and magnificent Hampstead Heath with one
of the city’s best art galleries housing works by
Rembrandt, Brueghel and many more.
All the hotels used
are of 4-star standard and well-located. All offer bar, restaurant and
comfortable bedrooms with private facilities, TV, telephone and minibar.
