William Morris & London Arts and Crafts

Discover the London of William Morris and the "firm"

William Morris may have dreamed of living in the countryside, but his business interests were centred on London, where he settled in Kelmscott House, named after his country retreat, Hammersmith in 1878. Morris was active throughout the final years of his life in London - he had showrooms on Oxford Street, held socialist meetings in the Coach House, where Bernard Shaw spoke regularly, and in 1891 he founded the Kelmscott Press - you will see one of the proofing presses on display. Based at the Ramada Hatfield, your hosts for this tour will be Dr. Anne Anderson and Dr. Scott Anderson, both experts on the Arts and Crafts Movement.

Special Event highlights: Lectures by Dr Anne Anderson Explore the enduring Morris heritage in the capital The Morris Society's collection at the Coach House, Hammersmith The Morris gallery in Walthamstow The churches at Waltham Abbey and Great Warley
