Fly with British Airways from London Gatwick to Venice and transfer by coach to Vicenza for check in to the hotel for a six night stay on a bed and breakfast basis.
Morning walking tour of Vicenza with entrance to the Teatro Olimpico. An early evening transfer will take us to Verona for the first opera performance. The centre of the city of Vicenza looks a lot as it did in the 18th century, filled with Gothic palaces and still partially enclosed by its medieval walls. A stroll through the city will reveal much architecture by the man who changed the face of the city, Palladio – you’ll find some of his greatest works here, including the Renaissance Teatro Olimpico.
Full day tour to Lake Garda. Today we soak up the scenery around Lake Garda, Italy’s largest and, for some, most beautiful lake. Sitting amidst mountain scenery to the north and rolling vineyards and olive groves to the south, clustered along its shores are many villages and towns.
Morning tour to Padova with the afternoon free in Vicenza. An early evening transfer will take us to Verona for the second opera performance. Padova is one of northern Italy’s most ancient cities and is home to a world renowned university. As old as it may be, the student population gives the place a vibrant atmosphere and it is a real pleasure to stroll the timeworn streets. La Basilica di sant’Antonio and the Scrovegni Chapel (please note entrance must be pre-booked) are recomended.
Full day tour to Venice by train. An easy train journey from Vicenza will take us directly into Venice, stepping out directly onto the Grand Canal. Venice is an incomparable city, a floating labyrinth, with palazzos, piazzas and waterways around every corner. There is much to see here, from St Mark’s Square and the Palazzo Ducale to main galleries, but there is much pleasure to be derived from just wandering the atmospheric alleyways. A full day vaporetto ticket is included to aid your explorations.
Full day tour to Mantova. According to Aldous Huxley, Mantova is “the most romantic city in the world” - with the combination of a skyline of towers and domes and the city’s three encircling lakes, it’s easy to see why. The medieval centre has four connected piazzas watched over by churches and palazzos.
Transfer by coach back to Verona/Venice airport for your return flight to London Gatwick.
NB: Exact order of excursions may vary according to local conditions and tour manager's discretion
In the unlikely event of the total cancellation of the performance due to weather, ill-health, or any other reason or change of cast, the ticket price will only be refunded if the entire performance is cancelled. Only the ticket price will be refunded under such circumstances and no reimbursement made for travel expenses such as flights, hotels, meals etc...
