Day one

Arrive at the airport for your flight to Prague. We start our two night stay with dinner at the four star hotel Clarion, located on the edge of Ceske Budejovice’s beauiful old 13th century town in the heart of Bohemia.

Day two

A short drive through the countryside takes us to Cesky Krumlov with its castle, medieval fortifications, Rococo theatre, tangled tiny streets and marketplaces. Later we return to Ceske Budejovice for a visit to its 700 year old brewery, sampling the original Budweiser straight from the barrel. This evening we enjoy a meal out in a local restaurant to soak up the atmosphere and sample some local cuisine.

Day three

We head into Austria through wooded countryside to Melk’s monastery above the Danube valley - famed for its long gilded Emperor’s gallery, historic portraits of Austrian emperors, stupendous library and manuscripts including fragments of the Nibelungenlied immortalized by Wagner. We follow the Danube through the Wachau’s steep, wooded cliffs to Durnstein with its sky blue basilica and ruined castle – before continuing to Vienna for two nights at the four star Hotel Lindner.

Day four

Our morning guided tour of Vienna will show you the very best of the city. You’ll see the 12th century St Stephen’s cathedral with its multicoloured roof, the former royal court of the Hofburg, the imposing buildings of the Ringstrasse, and many more palaces and churches. You’ll have free time too to explore the city’s culture and musical heritage independently.

Day five

We visit the 18th century Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the Hapsburgs, it’s full of priceless works of art - Chinese and Meissen porcelain, furniture, tapestries, lacquer work, chandeliers, glassware and intricate floors and ceilings. A six-year-old Mozart once played here. Later, a scenic journey takes us to Prague for three nights at the centrally located, four star Jury’s Inn.

Day six

Prague’s atmosphere combines a historic past with a vibrant present. Centuries of royal patronage and Slav, Jewish and German civilisations have all left legacies. Our in-depth guided tour includes the Charles Bridge, Tyn church, powder tower, old Jewish Quarter, Wenceslas Square and the 11th century Staromestske Namesti square with its astronomical clock.

Day seven

We visit Hradcany, Prague’s castle and cathedral. Perched on a cliff over the city, it was the centre of political power for a thousand years. Our guide will bring to life its history and mix of palaces, churches and fortifications - including the Spanish Hall with masterpieces by Brueghel, Durer, Holbein, Da Vinci and Titian. Dinner will be at a local restaurant with a panoramic view over the city.

Day eight

You’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
