Check in to hotel for a three night stay. Welcome drink, evening lecture, “Arts and Crafts or Art and Industry: The Darmstadt Artist Colony” and dinner with wine at the hotel.
A full day today exploring the legacy of this brief flowering of artistic integration in the Mathildenhohe area of the city. Highlights include the superb artist colony museum, the Wedding Tower (Hochzeitsturm), built in 1908 to celebrate the Duke’s marriage, Russian Church and an internal visit to one of the many Art Nouveau houses in the area. Evening lecture, “Jugendstil-Secession: Art Nouveau to Modernism” and dinner with wine at the hotel.
Morning departure for the Hessian State museum before departing Darmstadt to spend the afternoon in Bad Nauheim. Here you will find the wonderful Sprudelhof, an Art Nouveau complex that perfectly demonstrates what Art Nouveau aimed to achieve - a complete work of art, combining architecture, applied arts and design.
Today you will visit Darmstadt’s Schlossmuseum, housed in a former ducal palace in the city centre. The collection here includes paintings, sculptures, furniture, tapestries, gold and silver. There’s time for a look at the late Renaissance town hall and a leisurely lunch before returning to Frankfurt airport for the return flight to Heathrow.

An amazing trip. Anne Anderson's talks were excellent. Gill was an excellent tour manager. Our trips out were wonderful, especially Bad Neuheim. Overall this was a great experience and to be recommended.
