Welcome reception and private dinner with wine followed by a talk by Gerlad Deslandes 'Art Treasures of the North West'.
Accompanied by Gerald Deslandes, visit the Old Masters exhibition at Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery; the city's famous waterfront and the international contemporary art collections at the Tate Liverpool. After lunch (not included) travel to Port Sunlight and visit the Lady Lever Art Gallery with its Pre-Raphaelite art and collection of Wedgewood porcelain. After dinner Gerald Deslandes will give a talk about L.S. Lowry in which he will examine Lowry's portayal of crowds in the first industrial city.
Morning visit to the Imperial War Museum, North, for its current exhibition about battlefield medicine from WWI to Afghanistan. Then on to visit The Lowry Gallery at Salford Quays, named for early 20th century painter L.S Lowry, where you will be able to see some of the artist's work. After lunch (not included) visit Manchester Art Gallery. The lovely original Victorian building with its collection of Pre-Raphaelites, Gainsboroughs, Constables and Turners has been extended to house changing exhibitions of both historical and contemporary art. Return to the hotel approximately 5.00pm.
