Then onto the timeless village of Arley next to the River Severn, if you get off here you will find a pretty station which was featured in the television version of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe". Then stop off for lunch (not included) at new Engine House at Highley, which houses the reserve collection of steam locomotives. This is a good place to break your journey, have something to eat and enjoy wonderful views across the Severn Valley from the engine house balcony. You can choose to stop off at the stations en route or continue on to Bridgnorth with its thriving Saturday market and many fine 16th and 17th century buildings and mansions. Your day ticket allows you unlimited journeys throughout the day and entrance to the Engine Room Museum.
Day 3: To Birmingham for a Sherbourne Wharf canal cruise which shows Birmingham 'ancient and modern' and how the canals made the city prosperous. A coach city tour then follows before a light lunch (included) at the Rope Walk Pub, situated in the Georgian quarter of St Paul's Square in Hockley. Later a private visit and guided tour has been arranged at Soho House, which was the elegant home of industrialist and enterpreneur Matthew Boulton from 1766 to 1809. Carefully restored this fashionable Georgian house features period room interiors with fine collections of ormolu, silver, furniture and paintings. It was once a regular meeting place for some of the greatest minds of the 18th century. Matthew Boulton (1728 - 1809) was a founding member of the Lunar Society, a group of great thinkers and inventors who met regularly at his home with guests who included James Watt, Erasmus Darwin, Josiah Wedgwood and Joseph Priestley. Return to the hotel approximately 5.00pm.
