Day One
Fly to Edinburgh and meet your Tour Manager. Our short orientation tour will introduce you to the highlights of this historic city, including the Castle, famous Princes Street, St. Giles Cathedral and the Royal Mile. We continue to Perth in the afternoon, arriving at the hotel in good time to relax and unpack before dinner.
Day Two
After a full Scottish breakfast, it's off to Glamis Castle (entrance payable locally). Uncover the extraordinary history of the Queen Mother's childhood home on the guided tour of its principle rooms, and - weather-permitting - stroll through the magnificent gardens. We'll continue to historic St Andrews - now with royal associations of its own! Explore the castle ruins, browse the interesting selection of shops, or perhaps watch the golfers on the famous 18th, before we return to the hotel this evening.
Day Three
Spend the morning at leisure, perhaps exploring the centre of Perth. We then head to the Highlands, stopping en route in the bustling resort of Pitlochry with its interesting Victorian architecture and lively main street. In the afternoon we visit the nearby Edradour distillery for a guided tour and "wee dram". Scotland's smallest, and arguably most picturesque, distillery, the whisky is still made as it was over 150 years ago by just three men.
Day Four
Today we visit beautiful Loch Ness, stopping in Fort Augustus, where a series of locks join the Caledonian Canal to Loch Ness. Visit the Caledonian Canal Heritage Centre and the Clansman Centre, or take an hour-long cruise through the Loch on board the Royal Scot, which boasts two large television screens giving an unrivalled view of life underwater. Afterwards, we'll continue to the Loch Ness Exhibition Centre at Drumnadrochit, for the chance to discover some of the fascinating secrets of these iconic waters.
Day Five
Today we'll take a circular tour of the Grampian Mountains and West Highlands. Driving down Glen Spean, past the foothills of Ben Nevis, we'll stop in the popular Highland resort of Fort William, set amidst glorious mountain scenery. We'll continue alongside the Loch before heading inland to the towering hills of Glencoe, and - time-permitting - stop at the award-winning visitor centre. From here, it's over desolate Rannoch Moor and past Loch Tay, before returning to the hotel.
Day Six
We bid farewell to the Highlands today. We'll break our journey in Pitlochry before heading to the airport for your flight home.
