Days Two and Three
Spend two days at sea, enjoying the atmosphere on board and getting to know Marco Polo's wonderful on-board amenities.
Day Four
The Portuguese capital and 'Gateway to the New Worlds', Lisbon stands on the River Tagus, down which the great explorers sailed during the Age of Exploration. Enjoy an excursion through the maze of narrow, hilly streets of the Alfamar district - a striking contrast to the steel and glass of the modern city.
Day Five
Exotic Tangier welcomes Marco Polo today. Here the white buildings and mysterious streets beckon you to explore. Don't miss the unforgettable chance to break out your bargaining skills as you hunt for treasures in the Grand Souk, swathed in the scents of North Africa.
Day Six
Malaga, the colourful capital of Andalucia and birthplace of Pablo Picasso, is gateway to the hugely popular resorts of the Costa del Sol. Explore or spend the day on the shore excursion to the great city of Granada, on the plain beyond the high Sierras, where the World Heritage Site of the Alhambra palace and surrounding gardens is one of Europe's most stunning locations.
Day Seven
The Old City of the Spanish port of Cartagena is a fascinating place in which to wander. Soak up the atmosphere of a town that exudes Spanish style and custom.
Day Eight
Mallorca has long been regarded as the perfect holiday haven, but the island capital of Palma has much more to offer than simply sun and sand. See the city's great cathedral and historic, elegant mansions, or take an excursion inland or to the rugged northwest, where you'll find beautiful coves and charming villages a world away from the beach developments of the southern coast.
Day Nine
Marco Polo makes a rare call at historic Valencia, Spain's third largest city. Founded by the Romans this bustling, modern metropolis still retains the atmosphere of its great history. It's the city where paella was created, and the many fine buildings, churches and Cathedral beg to be explored. Step ashore to visit the city's spectacular new Oceanographic Park, or to enjoy a shore excursion through the Costa Blanca hinterland.
Day 10
Enjoy a day at sea, cruising off the Spanish coast.
Day 11
This morning Marco Polo arrives at the tiny British territory of Gibraltar, set beneath the famous 'Rock'. Explore the very British Main Street, and take the cable-car to the summit of the Rock, not only for the tremendous views to the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, but also to meet the famous Barbary Apes.
Day 12
Another day is spent at sea, as Marco Polo turns for home.
Day 13
Marco Polo makes her final stop at the historic port of A Coruna, or La Coruna. It was from here that ill-fated Spanish Armada set sail, but today it is a lively port with a thriving fishing industry. Step ashore to explore the atmospheric medieval quarter, or stroll the seafront, before Marco Polo sails once again this afternoon.
Day 14
The last day of your cruise is spent at sea, steaming back into the Western Approaches and the English Channel.
Day 15
Marco Polo arrives back in Tilbury at the end of a truly wonderful autumn sunshine cruise.
