Lord of the Glens cruise, Scotland

Lord of the Glens have proved enormously popular, with their winning combination of comfortable cruising and breathtaking scenery. A selection of cruises is available which feature the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness as well as the many delights of Scotland's wonderful west coast. Summer is the ideal time for cruising here and while unbroken sunshine can't be guaranteed, the weather is generally fine and the lush green of the hillsides is reflected in the calm waters of tranquil lochs.

The MV Lord of the Glens has 27 beautifully appointed and well-equipped state cabins, all with windows and en-suite facilities. The 'Robert Louis Stevenson' restaurant presents cuisine using local and freshly sourced produce whilst the 'Sir Walter Scott' bar and lounge on the upper deck provides for magnificent all-around panoramic views of the Highland scene. With all meals and excursions included this cruise offers excellent value for money, a spring or autumn treat to be savoured.

The longer cruises include a complete transit of the Caledonian Canal between Inverness and Banavie. Among the highlights of this section of the cruise are Urquhart Castle, the perfect photo opportunity on Loch Ness, Laggan Avenue, a tree-lined man-made section of the canal and Thomas Telford's engineering masterpiece Neptune's Staircase, a series of eight interconnecting locks that lowers vessels back to sea level. Having negotiated the Caledonian Canal, the ship glides out into Loch Linnhe in the shadow of Ben Nevis and cruises among the remote and breathtakingly beautiful scenery of the west coast.

Depending on the cruise you choose, ports of call can include the Isle of Mull, featuring the famous harbour town of Tobermory and photogenic Duart Castle; the pretty but remote village of Gairloch; Upper Loch Torridon, an impressive sea loch; colourful Portree and historic Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye; the impossibly romantic Eilean Donan Castle and the tranquil little islands of Raasay, Rum and Eigg. Departs from Inverness airport/railway station - rail and air connections are available on request.

Please note there is no lift onboard the ship and there are a number of steps between each deck including from the Upper Deck to the Thomas Telford Deck.

  • Accommodation in a lower deck twin cabin on a full-board basis.
  • Full cruising programme plus shore excursions.
  • Return coach transfers between Inverness and the ship.
  • Connections to Inverness available on request
