Day one

Travel by Eurostar from St Pancras to Lille and onwards to Nice by TGV. On arrival, transfer by coach to Diano Marina (approx. 1.5 hours) and the Hotel Torino.

Day two

Full day tour to Cervo and Alassio. Popping along the bay, our first visit today is the pretty town of Cervo. Founded as a Roman villa and expanding in the medieval times – the 16th century ramparts still protect the town today, Cervo’s colourful buildings sprawl over a hillside that leads down to a shingle beach. The hill is crowned by the impressive Baroque church of San Giovanni Battista. The seaside resort of Alassio is well-known for its spectacular natural setting and beautiful views. Along its seafront of sandy beaches you'll find a lovely promenade lined with bars and cafes, and the cobbled streets of the pedestrianised town centre make for a relaxed afternoon stroll. Edward Elgar composed his concert-overture In the South (Alassio) while on holiday here in the winter of 1903.

Day three

Full day tour to Monaco. The principality of Monaco may be a tiny 1.9 square km, but you’d be hard pushed to find as much luxury anywhere else. Ruled over by its famous royal family and full of lavish hotels, luxury tower blocks, gleaming super cars and a harbour stuffed with multi-million pound yachts, Monaco is a fascinating place to visit. See the famous Grand Casino and Hotel de Paris and soak up the ambience.

Day four

Full day tour to Portofino and Santa Margherita. Tiny Portofino is nestled around a protected inlet amongst cypress and olive trees. This is, A-list Riviera, as demonstrated by the luxurious yachts anchored in the small harbour, with colourful houses, mansions shrouded by trees and plenty of bars and cafes. Just above the town you’ll find San Giorgio church, said to contain relics of the dragon slayer himself. Santa Margherita is a small, lovely and picturesque resort set in an inlet. The town is full of grand hotels and villas in lush gardens all looking out over the sparkling blue of the bay. As well as a gentle stroll or relaxing in a café watching the world go by, Santa Margherita’s church of San Michele contains a work by Van Dyck.

Day five

Full day to relax and explore Diano Marino at your leisure. Diano Marino looks the quintessential stylish Italian beach resort. On a long swathe of sand lined with waving palms, nestled in a wide sweep of bay the town is backed by low, lush hills that protect it from the wind and cold. Stroll the seafront promenade with a gelato, or enjoy the buzzing café culture.

Day six

Full day tour to Genoa. Italy’s largest port, Genoa has been a prosperous economic centre for centuries, which has created a city full of impressive landmarks and a glorious heritage and earning the nickname ‘La Superba’. The old town is a medieval warren, part of which is UNESCO-listed, spotted with palazzi that have been converted into world class museums and art galleries.

Day seven

Morning tour to Ventimiglia with traditional local lunch in the hills. Close to the border with France, Ventimiglia is best known for its excellent weekly market that runs along the seafront of the new town. We will have a morning here to pick up a few bargains, though there is a lovely medieval centre and the delightful Hanbury gardens to explore if a market is not your thing. A farewell lunch in a typical, traditional trattoria up in the hills is a tour highlight.

Day eight

Transfer back to Nice station to catch the return TGV to Paris. At Paris, board the return Eurostar service to St Pancras.

NB: Order of excursions may vary according to local conditions, market day in Ventimiglia (Friday) and tour manager's discretion.

Please note the maximum group size on this tour is 49 passengers.
