Scenically wintry, this delightful tour visits one of France's most distinctive and beautiful areas, the mountainous Savoie region. Highlights include the delightful town of Chambery, Annecy and its stunning lake, gastronomic Lyon, France's second city, Aix-les-Bains and the Abbaye d'Hautecombe. This tour is based at the comfortable and atmospheric, family-run 3-star Chateau des Comtes de Challes, set in extensive grounds about 6km from Chambéry and offering excellent local cuisine as well as comfortable accommodation.

PLEASE NOTE: As with most trains, passengers are responsible for carrying baggage onto and off the train. Baggage can be stored on overhead shelves or at the entrance to the carriages. Trollies are available at St Pancras, but bags do need to be carried onto the platform. Travel Editions recommends a new luggage delivery service called Carry My Luggage, where your suitcase can be picked up from your home before departure and delivered straight to your hotel; therefore removing the worry about carrying your cases onto and off the trains

Travel by Eurostar from St Pancras or Ebbsfleet to Lille and onwards by TGV to Lyon. On arrival transfer by coach (approx. 2 hours) under tour manager's direction to hotel for check in for 7-night stay on dinner, bed and breakfast basis.
December 24
Morning guided tour of Chambery, with the afternoon free for further personal exploration. Return to the hotel for festive Christmas Eve dinner.
December 25
Day free with festive lunch and dinner at the hotel. For the energetic, there are lovely walks around the hotel.
December 26
Morning tour to the beautiful and peaceful Abbaye d'Hautecombe and early afternoon visit to Aix-les-Bains.
December 27
Full day tour to the delightful town of Annecy and the surrounding lake.
December 28
Full day tour to Lyon.
December 29
Full day tour to Chartreuse and Grenoble.
December 30
Transfer to Lyon station for return TGV and Eurostar to Ebbsfleet or St Pancras.

Chateau des Comtes de Challes
This tour is based at the beautiful Chateau des Comtes de Challes, located in the pretty village of Challes-les-Eaux about 6km from Chambery. Dating from the 15th century this atmospheric hotel was converted from a fortified house and offers a very high level of comfort and service. Facilities at this friendly, family-owned hotel include an elegant restaurant (where dinner is included each evening), bar, delightful grounds, outdoor pool and charming, well-appointed rooms with private bath/shower, TV, telephone and minibar (rooms in the original chateau building are available at a supplement). It even has its own private chapel!
