Day Two
Discover Munich on today's guided city tour. Don't miss the striking of the Town Hall's world-famous carillon above Marienplatz, the incredible array of foodstuffs at nearby Viktualienmarkt, and beer and sausages at the Hofbrauhaus - a Bavarian 'must-do'. Later this afternoon, head into the Bavarian countryside to the historic market town of Rosenheim, your base for the next four nights.
Day Three
Explore Rosenheim today or join our optional excursion to the beautiful city of Salzburg. You're free to explore the city under your own steam, from the Mozartplatz with its famous Glockenspiel clock, to the composer's birthplace and his family home (Wohnhaus), all of which can be visited during the day (entrances payable locally).
Day Four
Enjoy some of Europe's finest Alpine scenery on today's optional excursion, as you journey into the heart of southern Bavaria. Your first stop will be at the infamous settlement of Obersalzburg, where the Nazi generals spent their holidays. From here, Hitler's famous 'Eagle's Nest' or 'tea-house' - now a restaurant - can be reached by a lift through the stunning mountains. This afternoon you'll visit Konigsee, a spectacular inland fjord hemmed in by a sheer mountainside. Take an electric-powered boat across the still waters to the iconic, onion-domed chapel of St Batholoma, before you return to the hotel.
Day Five
Today's included excursion takes in 'Mad' King Ludwig's castle at Neuschwanstein. Stroll across the Marienbrucke for a wonderful view of its fairytale turrets and towers, and marvel at the fantastical Gothic interior inspired by Wagnerian opera. You'll also visit the famous village of Oberammergau, home every ten years to the Passion Play, performed by a cast of hundreds of villagers. An optional excursion affords the opportunity to take the historic Gondola - the Laber Bergbahn - to the summit of the Laber, for some truly spectacular views and to enjoy coffee and cake at 5000 feet.
