Day One

Travel to Newcastle to board Discovery, in time for her afternoon sailing.

Day Two

Today is spent at sea, enjoying the atmosphere on board. Take the opportunity to learn a new skill from an expert in one of our 'Super Craft' sessions, which will take place throughout the voyage.

Day Three

Today Discovery calls at Olden. This is the stopping off point for a trip through the stunningly beautiful surrounding countryside to the famous Briksdal Glacier, part of the vast icy mass of the Jostedalsbreen ice-pack, which broods over the eastern reaches of the fjord.

Day Four

Today is spent at sea, as Discovery cruises northwards along the beautiful Norwegian Coast, following the ancient route plied by the famous steamers that to this day bring supplies and news of the outside world to astonishingly remote settlements.

Day Five

Rising up out of the sea like miniature Alps, the wild and beautiful Lofoten Islands' tiny fishing villages (with even tinier names, such as "A") shelter beneath towering peaks, cliffs and rock formations. Discovery calls at Leknes, nestled at the foot of stunning, Alpine-like scenery, and there'll be an opportunity to explore this most beautiful corner of the world on an overland excursion. This evening, in the long-evening light, we'll cruise through the Inside Passage, passing the stunning scenery of Solbergfjord, Gisund and Grotsund.

Day Six

Discovery cruises beyond the Arctic Circle, in perpetual summer light, close to the coast of Finnmark. This afternoon we'll call at Hammerfest, Europe's northernmost town. This evening Discovery docks in the pretty remote village of Honningsvaag. Join an optional excursion to the famous visitor centre at Nordkapp, almost at Europe's northern most point. You'll return to the ship, passing Knivskjellodden, Europe's true north tip, before Discovery continues south.

Day Seven

The largest settlement beyond the Arctic Circle, Tromso, with its magnificent cathedral rising grandly from its bustling centre, is our port of call this afternoon. Step ashore to explore the market, and the Polarmuseum, which pays tribute to Arctic pioneers. East of the city centre is the strikingly modern Arctic Cathedral, or Ishavskatedralen, while close by, a cable car climbs to the summit of Mount Storsteinen for unsurpassed views.

Day Eight

Another special day awaits as Discovery heads into magnificent Holandsfjord, just above the Arctic Circle. We'll cruise gently across still waters to the unforgettable sight of the mighty Svartisen Glacier, whose tentacles reach down to just 20 metres above sea level. The sight of the blue-white ice moving imperceptibly down the valley is one of the most arresting of the whole trip.

Day Nine

Discovery cruises into beautiful Romsdalsfjord and Andalsnes. From here, there's the opportunity to enjoy an excursion through some of Norway's most spectacular mountain scenery, and perhaps a chance to visit the famous wooden Rodven stave church in its dreamy setting beside the fjord.

Day Ten

This morning Discovery docks in Bergen - an ancient Hanseatic city of cobbled streets and medieval houses, and birthplace of composer Edvard Grieg. Visit the vibrant harbour and fish market, stroll past the wooden warehouses of Bryggen and take the Floibanen funicular to the summit of 'Mount' Floyen.

Day Eleven

Today is spent at sea, reliving the memories of the last few days.

Day Twelve

Discovery arrives back in Newcastle at the end of a memorable cruise.

MV Discovery

In 2013, 20,000-tonne Discovery sets out on a series of exciting departures from ports around the UK, on her first season of cruises. With her classic profile, eight passenger decks, and accommodation for 700 passengers, Discovery is a smaller ship built in traditional style, and offers the perfect 'home from home' for a memorable holiday.
