Paris

Paris was, is and always will be, something rather special. Sightseeing? The list is endless: Notre Dame, L’Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, Champs Élysées, Sacre Coeur, Eiffel Tower and much, much more. The shops such as Galeries Lafayette and the smart arcaded rue de Rivoli are legendary. Here you are only a short walk from the Louvre - home of the most well-known painting in the world, the Mona Lisa. The grandiose Place de la Concorde, the largest square in the city, shows off 18th Century French architecture at its best and just over on the left bank you’ll find the Musée d’Orsay, home of the world’s finest Impressionist art collection. The eccentrically modern and yet stylish Pompidou Centre famous for not only its exhibits, but street entertainment of the area too. Visit the islands in the middle of the river Seine, dominated by the cathedral of Notre Dame and the delicate spire of the sublime Ste. Chapelle or take a stroll through the famous Tuileries gardens, specially spectacular during the Spring. But to see everything at once, why not try a trip up the Eiffel Tower?

To get the "feel" of Paris you will visit old Montmartre, for this is the home of the artists and street entertainers. Picturesque squares where the eaves of the houses almost touch and the unmistakable smell of fresh coffee and croissants drifts from the numerous brasseries. The Latin Quarter has an atmosphere all of its own: tiny cobbled streets, crammed with restaurants and bistros. For the gourmet there can be no other country in the world quite like France for its quality of food and drink, and Paris, of course, is the capital of it all. There is so much to see and do, you will leave Paris with sore feet, but once having had a taste, you will always want to come back for more. It is everything you imagine it to be, romantic, inspiring, vibrant even outrageous, but best of all Paris is simply unique.

    Day 1
You take a late morning/early afternoon Eurostar Service from London St. Pancras International to Paris (exact time will be given on travel documents), arriving at Paris, Gare du Nord approximately 2 hours later. Eurostar takes you to the heart of the city, a coach will then take you to your hotel.

    Day 2
After breakfast, the coach will take you on a comprehensive sightseeing tour of the city, during which you will see L’Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, Champs Élysées, river Seine, the Louvre, in fact almost every famous landmark you will ever have heard of. You then leave Paris to take the short drive to Versailles where you can visit the majestic palace home of Louis XIV and the typically provincial French market town of Versailles itself. This visit will end mid afternoon after which the coach will take you back to Paris so you can spend the remainder of the afternoon as you wish, either shopping or more sightseeing.

During the evening, the coach will take you on a tour of Paris 'By Night'. The whole city is a work of art with monuments and buildings illuminated in the most tasteful manner, their reflections dancing on the river Seine with the majestic Eiffel Tower dominating the skyline. It looks so delicate it could almost be made of lace. The tour does not take up the whole evening so you also have time to perhaps sample some of the famous Parisian nightlife.

    Day 3
This morning, after breakfast the coach will then take you to perhaps the most picturesque and atmospheric quarter of Paris, Montmartre, home of the artists and street entertainers, with of course the whole area dominated by the white domed basilica of the Sacre Coeur. You will have time to wander and see such sights as the Moulin Rouge, where Toulouse Lautrec found most of his models; Vincent Van Gogh’s and Renoir’s houses; the famous club of the Lapin Agile; the oldest vineyard in Paris and many other interesting sights. For those of us feeling a little less energetic there is a small ornamental train which will take you around the main sights.

This afternoon you are free to sightsee in this beautiful city as you wish, so what is it to be? Perhaps a trip up the Eiffel Tower, a cruise on the River Seine, a browse amongst the antique shops, a wander around the picturesque gardens, window shopping or take your time to visit Paris’ incredible range of attractions. This evening you have the opportunity to visit one of the best cabarets in the city, the stunning Paradis Latin. (full details of this excursion with your confirmation).

    Day 4
After a leisurely start to the day, the coach will return you to the Gare du Nord station to take an early afternoon Eurostar service, (exact time will be given on travel documents), arriving at London St Pancras International approximately 2 hours 15 minutes later.

Fantastic short break in Paris with Suzann as guide. She clearly loves the city and knows it well. We normally travel independently, but with Riviera its excellent value + you can pick and choose how much you join in. suzann genuinely cares about the customers without being patronising and she looked after someone who was very sick. Please pass our thanks to her. Annette and Tim

Just to say that our trip to Paris with Riviera Travel was excellent in every respect... But, most especially, I am writing to say how very, very impressed we were with our Tour Guide. Richard just has to be the best tour guide anyone could possibly hope to have! Congratulations on employing such an efficient, pleasant gentleman.

Me & my mother have just been on one of your guided tours and would like to express how well we thought the trip was organised and executed. This was our first time on an escorted tour, I found it had the right balance between guided tours and free time. In such a short time it is amazing how much we packed in. Alot of our enjoyment was down to our tour guide Andy - he inspired with his love of Paris. Thanks to the Observer - a good recommendation!

The hotel was excellent, but our stay was made perfect by your tour guide Andy. His knowledge of the history of Paris and his fluent speaking of the language was admirable, he had time for everyone on the tour and nothing was too much trouble for him.

Our tour manager was excellent. She made Paris 'come alive' with her enthusiasm and profound knowledge of the city and its history. This was indeed a holiday to remember and we felt really well looked after.
