Visit the church and the monastery graveyard - where the poet is buried - and relax with a cup of tea in the local tea rooms (payable locally).
Day Three
Another fascinating optional excursion takes you west across glorious County Mayo, today. After a stop at the celebrated Woollen Mills at Foxford, you'll head to delightful Westport on beautiful Clew Bay. Stroll around the harbour to the fascinating Heritage Centre (entrance payable locally) or head for a pint in Matt Molloy's, the local pub owned by a member of the famous Chieftains traditional Irish band.A short drive from Westport brings you to the slopes of Croagh Patrick, Ireland's 'holy mountain', from beneath which St Patrick was said to have driven the snakes out of Ireland. You'll return to Sligo at the end of a truly fascinating day.
Day Four
On today's half-day optional excursion you'll "arise and go now, and go to Innisfree", the idyllic island in the middle of Lough Gill that was the subject of Yeats' most famous work.
