Easter Rajasthan chill out

Castle Bijaipur is a fine heritage hotel, situated in the heart of the Aravelli Hills, surrounded by forests of Jacaranda, unspoilt rural villages, lakes and ancient temples, making it a perfect location for walks, horse rides, painting, bird watching or simple relaxation. There is a swimming pool, a masseur, bicycles and Marwari horses for your pleasure. Yoga suitable for beginners, as well as more advanced, is on offer everyday to help you unwind and the lake city of Udaipur is only a couple of hours away.

This has always been a very successful and popular trip for Christmas and as such we thought we’d put it on for Easter as well. At this time of year the weather will be warmer, which should make things even better.

Highlights:
Castle Bijaipur and surrounding villages
Luxury tents by a lotus lake
Yoga
Cooking lessons, bikes and horses
Agra and the Taj Mahal
The historical sites of Delhi

Day one: Delhi – Udaipur:

The tour will begin in Delhi mid morning at our joining hotel for wash and change. After lunch we’ll have a look around the new town before heading to the station for the night train to Udaipur. Overnight train (L, D)

Day two: Udaipur:

Udaipur is a place best explored at ones own pace. Guides and itineraries will be available for those wishing to have a more structured tour of the city’s sights, but the old town is small, made up of a labyrinth of alleyways and passages, and getting lost is part of the fun. Dinner will be at the hotel or at a local restaurant. Hotel (B, D)

Days three to eight: Castle Bijaipur:

After breakfast we will be met by Rawla Narendra Singh and transferred to his castle home. We will sort everyone out with one of the castle’s rooms and generally settle in. The following six days we will have yoga and start the activities, with horse rides, walks, cycle rides, swims and jeep safaris. There will be gentle yoga classes for early risers and evening yoga sessions for those who wish to take part. Cooking lessons will also be available, as will horse rides on the Marwari horses, cycle rides and walks. For one night we will even decamp en masse to the lotus lake for a night at the charming lake side camp. We will set up a shamyana (colourful canvas roof on poles) and have a barbecue. We will be able to go boating on the lake with the local fishermen, explore the fifth century fort and sun-worshiping temple. Hotel and one night camp (B, L, D)

Day nine: Castle Bijaipur – Mathura:

Today we will have a relaxed morning and lunch. In the mid afternoon we’ll transfer to Chittor to visit the magnificent fortress in the cool before an early supper and on to the station to catch the night train to Mathura. Overnight train (B, L, D)

Day 10: Mathura – Agra – Delhi:

After arrival we will transfer by coach to Agra, which will take a little over an hour, where we will breakfast and visit the Taj Mahal before continuing on to Delhi. Hotel (B, L, D)

Day 11: Delhi:

The tour ends with breakfast at the hotel. (B)

Wild Extensions: Arrive early to adjust to a new time zone or just to get a feel for the country before your tour starts. Explore the country after your tour on a bespoke Wild Extension or just allow a few days to relax afterwards. Maybe choose all of the above and get cheaper flights mid-week? There are so many options it’s hard to know where to begin, but here are a few ideas: • Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur • A few days in Kerala or Goa • Visit one of the nearby tiger parks
All the rooms at Castle Bijaipur are of a simple but atmospheric standard, with all having en suite facilities. Most are also aesthetically pleasing and whether in the old, 17th century wing or the newer Victorian block, exude charm and character.

Camping at Lotus lake. To be honest camping is a bit of a misnomer, as we will take advantage of the walk-in tents complete with comfortable beds, en suite facilities, a shaded dining area and yoga tent. We will cook up a traditional meal, build a fire and sit out under the stars.

The main reason for choosing this trip was to see some of India for the first time. We liked the eco tourist ideals you set out in the brochure and the chill out appealed because it would give us relaxation after a hectic tailor made two weeks....What a wonderful time we had meeting locals, watching them working in cottage industries and enjoying walking through the lovely countryside near Bijaipur Castle. The organisation was first class, accommodation very special and our leaders ensured that all we had to do was enjoy ourselves. We highly recommend this type of holiday.
