Day One

Board the overnight flight from the UK to Delhi.

Day Two

Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your hotel for an included lunch. Later, on a guided tour of the old city you will see Jama Masjid mosque and Raj Ghat, Gandhi's cremation site, with a drive by the Red fort, and a Rickshaw ride through the narrow lanes of Chandni Chowk.

Day Three

This morning's tour will visit New Delhi. Highlights include the India Gate war memorial, the vast boulevard of the Rajpath, Parliament House, and - from an earlier epoch - the ruins of the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque and the ornate Qutb Minar tower. This afternoon you'll head to the 'Pink City' of Jaipur for a two night stay.

Day Four

Visit Amber, ancient capital of the Rajput empire, with its palaces and temples dominated by the stronghold of Amber Fort. Make the final part of the climb by elephant or jeep to see the Royal Halls and the views from the ramparts. This afternoon take an included sightseeing tour of Jaipur, including the 'Palace of the Winds', the City Palace and the astronomical observatory built by the city's founder Jai Singh II.

Day Five

After breakfast, depart for Ranthambhore national park, one of the prime examples of Indian conservation and your base for two nights. Once the hunting ground of Indian princes, this national park stands atop a 600-metre-high hill range and is the home to Project Tiger and the Tigers of Ranthambhore. After lunch, relax for the rest of the day or take an optional visit to nearby Ranthambhore fort.

Day Six

Enjoy a true highlight of your trip to India - morning and afternoon canter (open-air vehicle) safaris in the Park with your naturalist guide. Lunch is also included today.

Day Seven

Today you'll visit Abhaneri, a small town popular for its 'Baoris', or step wells, and the mighty Harshat Mata temple. Explore the architectural beauty of the Chand Baoli step well with its carved panels, before spending the night in lodge accommodation in Geejgarh. After a relaxing afternoon, enjoy a cookery demonstration by the retreat chef before dinner is served. You'll spend the night in a private, air-conditioned lodge designed to give a sense of the India of the past but with modern facilities for your comfort.

Day Eight

Today you'll head to Agra, fabled 'City of Love' and site of the Taj Mahal. See the royal pavilions, palaces and courtyards of Agra fort before your first sight of the Taj Mahal, as the sun sets.

Day Nine

Perhaps pay another visit to the Taj Mahal, this time as the sun rises, before we return to Delhi for a final night.

Day Ten

Transfer back to the airport and board your return flight to the UK.

India Touring Hotels

You will be staying in a series of well-located hotels, all of which will be of at least a European three-star standard.

thank you for the most amazing holiday last week to India and the tigers. I think we all had a wonderful time and the tour guide driver and assistant more than surpassed our expectations and went over and above anything I would have expected. The hotels were fabulous as were the trips food people and general culture of India. I would certainly recommend Newmarket travel to my family and friends. Thank you so much again

Mrs E Barton

We have just arrived home from the India Tigers and Taj Mahal trip - literally at 1.00am this morning. We just wanted to say what a fantastic time we had and certainly wouldn't hesitate to travel with Newmarket again. In particular we wanted to say how fantastic our tour guide in India, Shailesh Chauhan, was. He really couldn't have done more for us. He was such a nice guy and was so knowledgeable and interesting that it gave an additional perspective to the visit. He is by far the best tour guide we have ever had and because you could tell that he enjoys what he does, it made the trip far more enjoyable. We really can't sing his praises enough. We would certainly recommend this holiday to anyone and look forward to our next trip with Newmarket.
