Mull Staffa and Iona by air

The Isle of Mull is a place of tumbling burns, high peaks, dramatic views and a silent, lonely beauty. From our base at the comfortable Isle of Mull Hotel, conveniently located close to the ferry terminal with superb views of the Sound of Mull, the Morvern hills and the Firth of Lorne, we will explore some of the highlights of the island. The multi-coloured buildings that line the waterfront of the islands principal town, Tobermory, will be familiar to many and its a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours wandering around the shops, which include local arts and crafts outlets.

Torosay Castle is a Scottish Baronial gem, set among 12 acres of spectacular contrasting gardens, which include formal terraces, an impressive Italian statue walk, informal woodlands and water gardens. Nearby, Duart Castle, the 13th century home of the Chief of Clan MacLean, sits broodingly on its headland, seemingly unmoved by the stunning views across the Firth of Lorne to Ben Cruachan. Lying just off the Ross of Mull, the sacred isle of Iona is famous the world over for its peaceful Abbey, a place of calm and contemplation, the perfect antidote to the stress of modern life.

Day 2
After our full Scottish breakfast we will depart for a tour of Mull, stopping first in Tobermory, the islands capital. The multi-hued buildings that line the waterfront will be familiar from a hundred calendars, and its a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours wandering around the shops, which include local arts and crafts outlets. For many, a pint in the Mishnish is an essential part of any visit to the town. We will then return to Craignure where we will visit Torosay Castle and Gardens. The castle was built in 1858 in Scottish Baronial style and is surrounded by 12 acres of gardens, including formal terraces, an impressive Italian statue walk, informal woodlands and water gardens. We will return to our hotel by coach or alternatively, should you wish, you can travel part of the way on the Mull Railway (not included) - a unique narrow gauge steam and diesel line that runs for a mile or so along the shore between Torosay and the old pier at Craignure. We return to our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 3
Today we will drive along the Ross of Mull to Fionnphort, where we cross as foot passengers to the sacred isle of Iona. Here you have the opportunity to visit the Abbey and wander over the island, taking in the atmosphere of calm and contemplation which attracts visitors from all over the world. Dinner is served back at our hotel in the evening.

Day 4
Following breakfast we will visit Duart Castle, the 13th century home of the Chief of Clan MacLean. We can explore the dungeons, the state rooms and appreciate the strategic position of the castle from the top of the keep. Thereafter we will catch the ferry back to Oban and continue our homeward journey, arriving back at Glasgow airport in time to catch our return flight to London Stansted.
