Day Two
Spend the day relaxing at the hotel or exploring the surrounding area. Our Tour Manager will be happy to suggest places to visit and things to do.
Day Three
The Jostedal Glacier - mainland Europe's largest ice-flow - is a mesmerising natural wonder dominating the northern hinterland of the fjords. Our optional visit here is a great opportunity, both to see the glacier itself and to explore the informative Norwegian Glacier Museum.
Day Four
A city of cobbled streets and medieval houses, Bergen is also the birthplace of composer Edvard Grieg. On our optional excursion, arriving by morning express boat, we'll visit the vibrant harbour and fish market, stroll past the wooden warehouses of Bryggen and take the Floibanen funicular up 'Mount' Floyen.
Day Five
Spend today's optional excursion exploring beautiful Sognefjord and the fascinating Sognefjord Boat Museum at Kaupanger with its fine collection of fishing and 'ice' boats, which reflect Norway's age-old interaction with the sea.
Day Six
On our optional Norway In A Nutshell Tour we'll ride the world-famous Flamsbana branch line across the stunning scenery from Myrdal to Flam - a remarkable 20-kilometre descent down the steepsided valley - and take a two-hour cruise through spectacular Aurlandsfjord and Naeroyfjord to the port of Gudvangen.
Day Seven
Another day at leisure to enjoy the hotel and resort.
Day Eight
Transfer back to the airport for check-in and your flight home.
Kvikne's Hotel, once host to Kaiser Wilhelm and his entourage, is a magnificent, Swiss-style wooden building situated right beside the fjord and against a breathtaking backdrop of snow-capped peaks.
The hotel has fine public areas, including a wonderfully appointed restaurant, which has breathtaking views across the Fjord, and large, comfortable lounges and a stylish bar - echoes of a bygone era. 'Standard' rooms are allocated by the hotelier in either the main building or the modern bedroom addition. For a supplement, you can stay in a room on a 'Higher Floor' with a balcony, or in a room with balcony and truly spectacular 'Fjord View', both in the modern bedroom addition. All bedrooms have private facilities with baths or showers and satellite TV. "A pleasant hotel in a truly spectacular location."
